At Hull Fishing Camp, we target the striped bass using bait and artificial lures all from shore though bycatch of other species is not uncommon. Campers will learn how to cast farther, tie knots, forecast weather and water conditions, what bait or lure to use under a certain set of conditions, fishing safety, and much more. They will learn all about the local fishery, the conservation of it, and how every animal from the plankton to ourselves play an important role in sustaining the fishery for future years to come. The camp costs $300 per week and runs every week of the summer, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. All equipment is provided and campers will receive a t shirt at the end of the week. The age range is 7-14 with 20 campers per week. This is not a fishing charter and not everyone may catch a fish, but they will end the week understanding the fundamentals, philosophy, and have a practical working knowledge of how to fish, while making some new friends they can go fishing with on their own! I started this program 5 years ago when I realized no one is teaching kids how to catch fish on the south shore. Fishing charters are pricy and though you will catch some fish, you won’t learn much that’s applicable for the kid who brings a fishing rod to the family beach day, or rides a bike around town to go fishing. The goal is to get kids confident in their ability to fish independently and work through the problem of how they’ll get a fish to bite at any given location under a variety of conditions. If all goes well, fishing will become a lifelong passion, a way to find comfort in nature, make friends, and if done sustainably, a tasty fish dinner for the seafood lovers. Kids and adults outside of the summer camp age range, I also do 2 hour fishing lessons for spin and fly fishing, more info for that on the website.
Age range: 7-14 for the summer camp. All ages for a learn to fish/ learn to fly fish lesson.
June 23rd-August 29th: (every week of the summer Monday through Friday)
